The Diabetes Dietitian Educator provides specialized medical nutrition therapy and education for diabetes patients, ensuring personalized assessment, follow-up, and program development. They collaborate with healthcare teams, participate in quality assurance, and aid in evaluating diabetes education initiatives. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in nutrition, Registered Dietitian credentials, diabetes-specific certifications, and experience in diabetes management programs.
POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides direct diabetes medical nutrition therapy education, assessment and followup and assists in developing diabetes education activities. Participates in staff and professional development activities and acts as a liaison with all diabetes medical nutrition therapy interactions with the program. Engages in all quality assurance activities; collects, compiles and summarizes data for the Diabetes Education Program. Assists in the assessment, development and evaluation of the program and its goals. Complies with UH departmental policies and procedures and maintains good guest and working relationships.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor's degree in nutrition or related field is required, plus completion of either an American Dietetic Association (ADA)-approved dietetic internship or a program in hospital dietetics approved by the ADA. Must be a Registered Dietitian. Three years of related experience in a diabetes management program is preferred. Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish) preferred. Certification CDE required upon six months of entering position. Obtains and/or maintains current CPR certification. Obtains and/or maintains current ServSafe® Certification. Experience with continuous glucose monitoring systems and as a pump trainer considered an asset.
LICENSURE
Must possess a current license from the Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians.
